Terms of Use

These terms set the conditions for using San Mateo Residents Directory. By continuing to use the site, you agree to them; if you disagree, please leave the site.

1. What San Mateo Residents Directory Provides

San Mateo Residents Directory is a privately operated reference to public rolls, record indexes, and directory collections that show who lives or has lived in San Mateo, California. It points to sources such as City Clerk records, ACRE services, court access, and library collections, but it hosts no government records and is not affiliated with any office, court, or custodian.

2. Lawful Use Rules

Use this site only for lawful purposes. You may not use it, or anything discovered through it, to:

  • Use the site to stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm another person
  • Use it to locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
  • Use it to commit identity theft or fraud
  • Make an FCRA-regulated decision about credit, employment, housing, insurance, or tenant screening
  • Use automated means to scrape, copy, or republish the site's content at scale
  • Disrupt the site's operation or compromise its security

3. No Consumer Reports

This site is not a consumer reporting agency as that term is defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act (15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq.). Nothing on these pages, and nothing returned by a linked search tool, is a consumer report or may be used to judge eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another FCRA-covered purpose.

4. Outside Portals and Services

Government portals and third-party services, including sponsored search tools, set their own terms and privacy policies. We do not control and are not responsible for their content, availability, pricing, or data practices.

5. No Warranties

The site is supplied "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind. We do not promise that the material is accurate, complete, or current, or that a linked portal will function or return correct results.

6. Liability Limits

To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, or special damages arising from use of this site or a linked resource, including decisions based on records found through it.

7. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold the site operators harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, that arises from your misuse of the site or breach of these terms.

8. Intellectual Property

The site's original text, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. You may link to a page and quote brief, attributed excerpts, but you may not republish full pages or copy the material systematically.

9. Changes to the Terms

We may revise these terms by posting a new version on this page. Continued use after a revision means you accept the updated terms.

10. Restricting Access

At our discretion and without notice, we may block or restrict a user who violates these terms or abuses the site.

11. California Governing Law

These terms are governed by California law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. The California Public Records Act (CPRA), Government Code §§7920.000-7931.000, is the state's public-records statute for requests to public agencies; an agency determination is normally due within 10 calendar days and may be extended by 14 days for unusual circumstances. The California Attorney General’s CPRA text and guide is the official reference for the statute. It is separate from California's consumer-privacy laws, the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), Civil Code §1798.100 et seq.

12. Severability

If a provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
