Information You Submit
If you enter a name, phone number, or address into a search form, the third-party service that supplies the results receives that entry; our servers do not retain a copy of the query. A message sent to us reveals only what you choose to include, and we use it to answer you.
Automatic Technical Details
Our hosting systems record ordinary server-log details such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps. We review those details in aggregate to keep the site working and to understand which pages readers use. Cookies or similar tools may support basic analytics and, when applicable, advertising measurement.
How We Use the Information
We use this limited information to operate San Mateo Residents Directory, fix problems, measure traffic, and improve its pages. We do not sell visitor lists or build profiles of individual users.
Links Beyond This Site
Our pages point to county and state records portals, library collections, archives, and third-party search tools. The privacy policy of each outside service governs what you submit there, including the sponsored search results supplied by a third-party company.
Who May Receive It
Hosting and site-support providers may process server logs on our behalf. Analytics and advertising partners may receive the automatic data described above. We disclose information when valid legal process requires disclosure, and otherwise do not do so.
Security and Retention
The site uses an encrypted connection, and we keep logs only for as long as the purposes above require. Because there are no accounts, this site has no password or user profile of yours to expose.
People Under 18
San Mateo Residents Directory is intended for adults and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you think a minor sent us information, contact us and we will delete what we can find.
Your California Privacy Choices
Depending on scope and exemptions, the California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), Civil Code §1798.100 et seq., provide rights that can include knowing or accessing data, deletion, correction, limiting use of sensitive personal information, and opting out of sale or sharing. Because we keep very little, a request usually means checking our contact mailbox and server logs, then removing what we find. Use the Contact page to ask. These consumer-privacy laws are separate from the California Public Records Act, also called CPRA, Government Code §§7920.000-7931.000. That public-records statute addresses requests to California agencies, where a determination is normally due within 10 calendar days and may be extended 14 days for unusual circumstances; it does not give us control over records held by California state, county, or city offices. Send removal or correction requests for those records to the custodian.
Policy Updates
When this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page. Continuing to use the site after an update indicates acceptance of the revised policy.
